Gold Presentation 2012
The annual Presention for Essex Gold Award achievers was held in Chelmsford Cathedral on Tuesday 3 January 2012. With a 100+ achievers this year, we were pleased that 70 attended the event with their families and friends. The evening was brilliantly hosted by 3 young people from Mayflower School, Billericay - Lorna, Ewan and Kerry.
Thanks to Dave Hill, Executive Director for Schools, Children and Families, who presented the Essex tokens to Gold Award holders and gave a speech. Thanks also to Cllr. Kay Twitchen OBE, Vice Chairman of Essex County Council and to Cllr. Stephen Castle, Cabinet Member for Schools and 2012 for their speeches and support.
We were all wonderfully entertained by Julia Mascetti playing the harp. For anyone who has not heard a solo harp - it was amazing! We hope to book her next year too!
Long Service Awards were presented to staff and volunteers who have given 10 years or more to delviering and supporting young people to achieve their DofE.
The evening was rounded off with a buffet in County Hall Atrium for all Gold achievers and their guests. Young people and families also had the opportunity to have group photogtrraphs taken by the photographers who attend the Palace Presentations - Success Photography

Walking Log Opportunity
Malcolm Austin, Davenant Foundation School is offering an opportunity for you to update your personal logs of hillwalking.
For DofE Leaders and volunteers who need more hours on the hills for their WGLA or ML or for anyone wanting more experience in navigation, winter conditions etc. Or just because you would like a few days walking with like minded people -
"As I mentioned at the last leaders' meeting I am proposing to spend part of the February Half term in the Lake District. I can offer a general programme of activities based on my 50 years of background knowledge of the area. My 15 years as a Mountain Leader and 30 years of DofE Expedition work. This can be used as log book experience for ML or WGLA As a base I will use Gillside Farm at Glenridding (NOT SIDE FARM) which has facilities for camping though not encouraged out of season, a bunk house which has individual bunk beds in two dormateries, or hook up facilities for campervans. Some winter experience would be usefull and interested parties should if possble have crampons and a walking axe.If any one interested would like to contact me via my e-mail address I can discuss the outline for the week in more detail. The proposed dates are Saturday 11th February to Thursday 16th"
