You can do your expedition at Bronze. Silver or Gold on foot, on horseback, by canoe, by bicycle, by wheelchair. The criteria is the same for all expeditions whatever the mode of travel:
Bronze 2days, 1 night 6 hours of planned activity
Silver 3 days, 2 nights 7 hours of planned activity
Gold 4 days, 3 nights 8 hours of planned activity
There are 20 conditions for each expedition; you need to check that your expedition fits these criteria. If you think your expedition may not fit any of the conditions your leader must complete a Variations form and send to the County DofE manager for approval.

Open Access Expedition on Horseback
Bronze
Training – Sunday 1st & Monday 2nd April 2012
This 2 day training weekend will look specifically at team building, navigation, camp craft, first aid as well as horse handling and care and ridden activities.
Practice – Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th May 2012
The practice weekend brings together all the skills you have learnt from your training. You will be expected to undertake this practice expedition on horseback and work together as a team. You will be supervised both directly from the ground and remotely on horseback. You must be able to walk, trot & canter safely and mount from the ground.
Qualifying – Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th May 2012
This weekend is an assessed expedition. An assessor will be on hand during the weekend and will be assessing you based on the 20 conditions of an expedition. You will be expected to work as team to complete this remotely supervised expedition. You will plan your own routes, camp over night and mind the horse in your care.
The total cost of this is £400 (£100 deposit must be paid at the time of booking)
Silver
Training – Friday 13th & Saturday 15th April 2012
This 2 day training weekend will look specifically at team building, navigation, camp craft, first aid as well as horse handling and care and ridden activities. This weekend will build on the skills you have learnt undertaking your Bronze Award. If you are new to DofE this will be a great way to learn new skills.
Practice – Saturday 2nd – Monday 4th June 2012
